Performance Assessment Task - Final project for EDU 607
Over the past eight weeks in this course, my knowledge of assessment and management has grown. Although I was aware of the importance of positive student-teacher relationships, I did not realize the extent to which these relationships can impact student learning. Positive student relationships are tied to successful learning by the student. Pierson, (n.d.), said students don’t learn from people they do not like (Pierson, n.d.).
Learner-centered environments seems to be a common thread throughout the teaching and learning course work. Building learner-centered environments requires teachers and school districts to focus on each student's social and emotional needs. Building in multi-tier support for students such as scheduling time for students to get extra support from teachers during the school day, and providing experts in the field to assist students with life skills can address individual student needs and create learner-centered environments (Edutopia, 2014). A goal for students should be to be self-directed learners. Students should work towards identifying how they learn and what strategies work for their individual needs. Learning how to learn is as important as learning content. In order for students to be more self-directed, they must have a clear idea of not only what they are supposed to learn but how to learn. Students can evaluate if the learning strategies they are using are working and can determine adjustments to be made (Popham, 2008).
